Charlotte Tideswalker is taking The Star back to how it was 50 years ago
A canalside pub is back open with a new landlady – and she’s determined to restore its history. Situated on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Stone, The Star dates back to the 16th century.
Charlotte Tideswalker has snapped up the pub after turning 40 this year.
She said: “We live six minutes away, we have always used this pub, and so I always said if it ever came up I would give it a go. I did my personal licence, turned 40, had a mid-life crisis, and thought let’s have the pub.”
Charlotte runs the pub with partner Karl and daughter Poppie.
She added: “I worked for 20 years in supply and now we’re here. It’s been crazy, good but crazy! It’s been good, it is different and crazy. We joined Pubwatch which is massively helpful, it’s been great and the pub has brilliant history.”
In the Second World War, the pub helped raise money for the RAF which went on to fund a Supermarine Spitfire.
Charlotte added: “We have restored it to what it was 50 years ago. We’re restoring it to its traditional value, we’ve got rid of the pool table and taken the flat screen TVs down. It’s been very exciting and people have been positive about it.”
The Marston’s pub is known for its stunning canalside views and beer garden as well as a large menu. With a lovely, homely feel inside the pub, The Star is set to be a local favourite during the upcoming colder months.
