Sneak peek inside giant inflatable labyrinth in Hanley Park this week

A huge blow-up maze has arrived in Stoke-on-Trent – and children can head inside for free. StokeonTrentLive was granted a sneak peek inside the gigantic inflatable labyrinth which will open to the public at Hanley Park tomorrow (August 14).

The Luminarium – a large, domed walk-in sculpture with light and sound – has been set up in the city centre as part of the The Big Feast festival.

Visitors will be asked to remove their shoes before heading into the Luminarium, which is fully accessible to all ages. Once inside they are free to follow the map along luminous tunnels inspired by natural forms. Or if they prefer, they can sit or lie back to enjoy the ambience, enhanced by the sounds of a specially-composed music.

Photographs and videos show how the giant soft-play style attraction features iridescent walls and LED lights.

It has been created by Architects of Air founder and artistic director Alan Parkinson who started experimenting with ‘pneumatic sculptures’ in the 1980s. Since 1992 the Nottingham-based company has built 21 luminaria, made more than 600 exhibitions, and toured in 43 countries.

The Luminarium will be open in Hanley Park from 1pm to 7pm on Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15 and from 11am to 5pm on Friday, August 16. Tickets are priced at just £5 for adults and are free for 18s and under, with pre-booking encouraged.

Every time slot has a number of tickets available for walk-ups with the exception of the first hour every day. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

It has been organised by arts company Appetite to launch this year’s The Big Feast, a free two-day event which takes place on the streets and other spaces of Hanley in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), Smithfield and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
