High street travel agent reopens after soar in demand for foreign holidays

A North Staffordshire travel agents has reopened its doors for the first time this year after seeing a boom in business from eager holiday-makers.

The Barrhead Travel branch in Newcastle-under-Lyme is welcoming customers back in person for the first time since 2020 in anticipation of a rise in holiday bookings as lockdown restrictions ease.

Over the last year, the four-strong team based at Barrhead’s Castle Walk store have been working remotely to support customers impacted by Covid-19.

Now store manager Hayley Nixon says the vaccine roll-out and the easing of lockdown means people are feeling more confident about planning an overseas trip.

She added that they are already experiencing a pent-up demand for destinations such as Tenerife, Turkey, New York, Orlando and Dubai, with a lot of bookings being made for summer 2022.

Hayley said: “It feels great to be back on the high street and we can’t wait to welcome our customers, old and new, back to our store to help them plan their dream getaway.

“There has been a high demand for special holidays with multiple generations and groups of friends – it seems everyone is looking to reunite to make special memories and make up for lost time.

“It’s so exciting to be a part of making this a reality for our customers and providing them with peace of mind whilst doing so. “

The Prime Minister has so far refused to confirm when foreign holidays can restart but has previously said it will not be before May 17.

It is hoped that Boris Johnson will soon reveal the results of a study into whether foreign travel will be allowed from this summer.
